18 days later...

It's been 18 days since my initial post.  Since then I've celebrated a birthday and an anniversary.  Both in one day, it was indeed a great day.  My husband made it a memorable day.  I'm grateful cause its been some years since I can actually brag about having a good celebration by his side. Thanks babe!

Back to the garden... I've added a garden table so that I don't have to bend over so much when I'm planting seeds and stuff in pots. The table was made out of pallets by a great couple from my church. Not only did I get a great table but it helped out a great cause; a mission trip to the Dominican Republic. Doing things with a purpose its the way to go!  I'm super excited about the greens in the yard. I will be expanding this project this week so that I may grow potatoes, sweet potatoes, and some Spanish sweet root. Yummy!

My greens are growing perfectly. I'm not sure what I should be growing at this time or in this HOT Florida weather but I'm doing it anyway because you just never know how it will turn out and you are really not loosing out on anything.  For instance, I bought 2 cilantro plants at Lowe's months apart, the first one went into seeding as soon as the winter was gone and it felt the heat. Of course, me, being new at this I let it spring up tall and flower. Duh, big mistake, the plant stopped producing those lovely cilantro leaves that I love so much.  The second plant wanted to spring up but I chopped her down. I refuse to see her flower. I'm mad I can't have my cilantro booming. LOL Cilantro loves the cool weather and well I live in Florida and we don't see cool 'till January.  This being said, cilantro is not the herb to grow in my garden but at least I gave it a go.  I guess that as long as I live here, I will continue to make a run to the store for a bunch of cilantro.

Till next time. Debb.

My mom has always had a green thumb. All my life I watched her grow something out of nothing. The best memories of my childhood were not of going to a theme park, they were actually of going to the backyard and picking fresh fruits and herbs for my mother to make juice or dinner.  I really never thought about growing anything but one day watching chef Giada pick the herbs she was going to use from her window box made me want to follow the same concept.  And so the journey began...

I got a window box and filled it with cilantro, basil, thyme, rosemary, and parsley.  I soon discovered that that window box was not big enough to maintain these wonderful herbs.  So I headed out to the dollar store and purchased a pot for each of the herbs and seeds. I bought seeds of everything; they were 4 packs for $1 dollar so how can I not buy them.  I felt inspired.

Soon enough things began sprouting out of the dirt and here I had to make another trip to the dollar store to buy more pots.  Pots required soil, and growing things required me getting educated. So, YouTube became my best friend and even making trips to local gardening events became a regular. Who knew?  I would've never done that before but something birth in me and its nice. I like it.  I look forward to opening my curtains every morning and staring at my back yard.  I look forward to growing more things and I anticipate even more, eating what I'm growing.

So this is how the journey began and we shall see where this journey goes.

Till next time. In Him,

Debb
